'Write or Die'

As I was stumbling around on the Internet, I came across a website called 'Write or Die'. I don't know how I came across it, I was just in one of those extremely bored moods. As with any idea in my head, I seem to lack that certain amount of motivation to be able to write it.

So I clicked on the link and scrolled down the page.

I was confronted with this box, so I just entered some numbers and off I went. I didn't really know what to expect.
I typed 'Once upon a time' into the text box, just to test it out really, and waited to see what would happen. The screen started turning red after a few seconds while I was sitting there.

Until...

A little message popped up reminding me that I should be writing and not just sitting there.

I don't know if anyone will find this helpful in anyway but it certainly made we want to keep writing to avoid flashing lights or sounds of screeching violins, or on a particularly harsh level, the risk of your writing disappearing.

If you want to have a look you can find the website here. Make sure that you look at the free web app located towards the bottom of the page.

I hope this helps,

Lucy

'Writer's block'

Don't you hate the feeling when you've hit a brick wall and can't seem to find any way around it.

You do?

We'll you'll find that you're not alone. Everybody experiences it at some point and you'll be glad to hear that there are several methods to help unlock your ideas.

If you're stuck with 'Writer's block', follow these methods and you will find that there is a way around the wall.
  1. It is absolute nonsense. There are millions of things to help trigger ideas and the first thing that you will have to do is remove the label of 'Writer's block' or you find that you are the one who is pushing the wall in front of yourself.
  2. Think about where you write. Do you write in your office? On the sofa? Now stand up, move across the room and go outside. You will find that by changing your scenery where you write will make a huge impact on your mood and your writing.
  3. Get a pair of headphones and sit and listen to music. Music is a great source of ideas and this can help influence the style of your writing.
  4. Daydream, look out the window and watch people. The only way you can write successfully about people is to be out there and experience it first hand. Go and experience life and you can often work your own experiences into your writing. Some of our best ideas come to us when we are not looking for them.
  5. 'Well OK, how do I structure my story? I'm not really sure what to do ... ' Just write. Set yourself a time limit and write whatever comes into your head. It's not all bad what you can come up with while doing this. If you sit and worry about your story, it will show. Write how it should be written, honest and what you feel is right.

So what are you waiting for?
Go and write ...

Introductions

Hello,

Let me introduce myself. My name is Lucy and I like to write.
And I like to write.
But not just words, sometimes I like to write music too.

I find that writing and music cross over quite a lot and I usually sit with headphones on trying to get inspiration for what I'm going to write next. Usually it is extraordinarily helpful, but other times I find that I just can't quite work the epic battle scene into the love story.

At the moment I enjoy listening to film and television soundtracks as I find the raw emotion helps trigger ideas. But anything from what's on the radio to music on the T.V can help the ideas flow too. At the moment I'm listening to Florence and the Machine's new album 'Ceremonials'. I like the use of instruments throughout her songs and her unique style. It's quite refreshing to sit down and listen to.

I'm studying A levels at the moment and I have taken ICT, English Literature, Music and Classical Civilisation. I've just finished analysing the position of Mr Darcy as a hero within the novel 'Pride and Prejudice.' And I'm also preparing to record my performance in music on the flute. I'm enjoying the sixth form experience at the moment despite the piles of homework.

I hope to appear here every so often.

Would love to hear from you,

Lucy
